Topping the Ball

Author: Anthony Bryan

HI

To all you Golfing enthusiasts who cant wait for the next round in the hope that your game will improve this time!

Well, Ive been there and done that with all the trimmings!!

Isnt it a beast when youre close to the green after two shots ( on a par 4) but get down in 6! Until I realised that on and around the greens is where most shots are lost I was in the same boat.

Realisation came when playing to the green (about 10 yards away - many moons ago!) on a downhill lie. I wasnt standing at 90 degrees to the slope of the ground. Having played this sort of shot before I often wondered why I was topping the ball and not getting the bottom of the club to the bottom of the ball. I was not standing correctly.

I now make sure that I am always at 90 to the slope of the ground whether it be uphill or downhill.

Next time YOU are in this situation remember what Ive said always place your body at right angles to the ground and that way youll get the bottom edge of the club to the bottom of the ball which is where it should be. Keep Swinging

Happy Golfing
