Should You Consider a Home Safe?

Author: Elia Levi

Why should one need a Safe in ones house?

Well, a Safe is a repository for cherished, rare, irreplaceable items that exist in every home, and for those antique, traditional or historical pieces of evidence whose value is all within the family, that are handed down from one generation to the next.

It should be considered for keeping unique and valuable documents that it is impossible or very hard to duplicate, like diplomas, titles of property, official certificates, contracts, agreements, wills, computer software etc.

But you should consider a Home Safe also as an additional item in your Home Security plan, just like an insurance policy or a Home Surveillance system, meant to relieve your worries and to provide you peace of mind.

Instead of hiding valuables all over the place, with the risk of having them thrown away inadvertently by unaware family persons (as it happens more frequently than it should), it makes sense to have a central place to store for safekeeping whatever needs being protected.

Occasionally it may also keep a sum of cash, possibly in a foreign currency, just before a trip abroad, or expensive items like family jewels.

One compact cabinet, usually inexpensive, to be opened with traditional keys, with fingerprints or with a combination lock, will be essential for saving its treasury not only from burglary, but when made on purpose, also to protect from fire, flood and other natural or man made accidents.

To avoid having the safe removed and brought away with all it contains, it can be bolted or anchored to walls or floor by proper means using professional help, or hidden in unexpected places.

Other safes are made to keep firearms or other dangerous items out of the reach of children or of unauthorized individuals.

Summing up, in any home there may be many items eligible for being protected from all sorts of dangers. Usually one can appreciate the importance of anything by trying to answer to the question: What can I do if this item is lost, damaged or unavailable?

Would it be worth to invest in a home Safe to make sure that simple provisions have been taken care of, to avert the all too real risks that are unfortunately present in every house? The responsible answer should be honest and sincere.
