Bad breath is one of the most common symptoms that affect most of us at one time or the other. The causes of bad breath can be traced to such simple reasons as poor dental hygiene and also for some deep-rooted ailment.

It is very important to understand the cause for the bad breath before attempting to treat it. The first thing is of course proper oral hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day. Proper flossing will also help in avoiding the problem of bad breath.

Bad breath is a very big problem, which very few people realize. It is quite common for people suffering from bad breath to be quite unaware of the problem. It is only when they open their mouth to speak that the problem gets noticed. The opposite person who is at the receiving end will try to avoid this by moving to a safe distance from you.

The people who are suffering from bad breath should visit the dentist and seek proper remedy. One of the primary causes of bad breath is the food particles that remain lodged in the cavities and other areas in the mouth. The other cause is the food you eat. Pungent odor is caused by foodstuff containing garlic and onion. Smoking is one of the main culprits that cause bad breath. So is alcohol.

Bad breath can also be due to other factors like dry mouth, oral infections, tooth decay and halitosis. The medical causes of bad breath are yet to be fully established. However, a dentist can help you in controlling bad breath.

Bacteria in the mouth are the major causes of bad breath. There are about 400 types of bacteria in the mouth. The condition of dry mouth leads to bad breath. The dry mouth syndrome results from insufficient saliva in the mouth. Saliva washes away the food particles residing in the mouth and also cleanses the bacteria.

People suffering from bad breath need to clean their tongue at periodic intervals. It is quite common for people with this condition to have a white or yellow coating on their tongues.

Gum diseases, vitamin B deficiency o zinc deficiency are some of the other causes of bad breath. Unfortunately many people suffering from bad breath are unaware of it. And the people around him are sometimes too embarrassed to point it out to the individual. The best way to test if you have bad breath is to lick your wrist and leave it for about 10 seconds and then smell it. If you find the smell unbearable then it means that you have bad breath. It is time to take at fresh look at your dental hygiene and consult your dentist.
