The Truth about the Top Six Spring Training Myths

Author: Peter Portero

Despite the rising popularity of spring training, many fans still dont attend. A lot of this lack of attention is due to people being misinformed of what spring training is really about. Therefore, the following article will show you the truth behind the top six myths about spring training.

Many think spring training has a low attendance. However, the 2002 spring training attendance increased by twelve percent in Arizona and five percent in Florida over the previous year. 2002 was also the record attendance year with 2.7 million.

There is no fan atmosphere to spring training is another common thought. However, spring training is the time when the fans can become the most intimate with their favorite teams.

Many of the top-level players are not at spring training, just the minor league players. One of the biggest reasons why people come to spring training is because of the top players. Not only do the top players attend spring training, but also you can often get up close and personal with them. Virtually every player from the minor to the major league attends spring training.

The cost of spring training is too high. Because of competition from spring training cities such as Phoenix, Orlando and Tampa airline ticks prices are often lower than other times of the year. The ticket prices at the ballpark are often half the price of a regular season game and parking is either free or under three dollars.

Seating is bad during spring training. Most spring training facilities have had major renovations due to demand by the fans for a rewarding and comfortable experience. There are often many seating options available to choose from.

Most players dont put their all into the game during spring training. This cant be further from the truth since most are minor league players playing for their chance at a position on a major league roster.
